ATEC 2322, Blog 1

The web has advanced so much since it the sixties from it being just for military use to now where according too www.internetworldstats.com 28.7 percent of the population has Internet access, and from the year 2000-2010 Internet users have grown 444.8 percent. After watching Wesch's video, Web 2.0...The Machine is Us/ing us, I looked at another video he had posted and was also very interesting. He talks about the Web 2.0... The Machine is Use/ing us, and talks about how huge the video became. He also talks about You Tube taking the place of what a community use to be, back before the Internet was popular. With all the new technology we have now, we don't need the small communities that people had before, this makes everyday life a lot more impersonal. So Wesch goes on too talk about You Tube and all the people that go on that website just too talk to you and me. He says that this is the new form of community, because we still want that closeness and a relationship with people. An anthropological introduction to You Tube

That is the link to see the video, just to warn you it is long, its about a 50 minute video. I suggest watching at least the first 20 minutes, if you can't watch the whole thing. He makes very interesting points about all the social networking sites we have now.
